Conor Duncan

Solicitor

London

Conor is a Solicitor in Beale & Co’s Contracts and Projects Advisory team in London predominantly advising on non-contentious front-end contract reviews and advisory work on both bespoke and industry standard form contracts (including NEC, JCT and FIDIC), utilised across a broad range of construction, energy and infrastructure projects.

Having been in-house Legal Counsel for Infrastructure at one of the UK’s largest main contractors, Balfour Beatty plc, Conor has considerable experience advising on critical national ‘Infrastructure’ (rail and highways), ‘Major’ (nuclear and CCS), and ‘Power’ (energy transmission and distribution) projects across the UK and Ireland. Coupled with his time spent on secondment to another UK main contractor during his training contract, Conor has a broad experience of working in both an in-house and a private practice capacity within the construction realm.

Conor trained at a full service law firm in London where he completed seats in a broad array of commercial technology (digital & outsourcing), construction and dispute teams, before qualifying into the Energy & Infrastructure (E&I) branch of the Construction team, where he gained experience advising on broad range of E&I projects (including BESS, Tidal, Solar PV, Power Purchase Agreements, Nuclear and Wind, amongst others).

Conor has an interest in climate- and environment-related research which led to his contributing towards a University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) report named ‘Risk Sharing in the Climate Emergency’, which was deliberated on at COP26.

Conor also has experience in drafting bespoke model climate-related clauses having led a team at The Chancery Lane Project (TCLP) Insurance Hackathon to create his TCLP model clause named Nemo’s Clause. Nemo’s Clause encompasses a set of Parametric Insurance clauses to be used in Parametric Insurance policies for the protection of Coral Reefs, achieved through provisions incentivising the insured parties to facilitate the rapid restoration of coral reefs following catastrophic weather events.

Outside of working life, Conor is an avid scuba diver (PADI Rescue Diver) and freediver, hiker, kayaker and skier.
